I first purchased Envy Pro 2 years ago. I am now purchasing it again, so l have the latest version.
Are their any suggestions for updating. Do l just upload the new version of envy pro through the dashboard and it replaces the old, will my website still look the same?
I have not updated my website for a while, so Is there a preferred order that l should follow when updating these main themes & plugin listed below.
Envy pro 1.2.2 update to 1.4.0
wordpress from 2.6.8 update to 4.7.4
Genesis 2.4.2 update to 2.5.0
Woocommerce 2.6.8 update to 4.7.4
There have been a number of changes since Envy Pro 1.2.2. The first question I would ask is whether you have made any code customisations direct to the theme. This will dictate the complexity and method of the upgrade.
I don’t think many code customisations were made!!! I didn’t do any. I am at the point where l want to do my website myself after unsuccessfully trialing paying someone to do it.
I am happy to lose anything they did, and just have the basic site.
I want to have a fixed size slider, as l find the current plugin too busy & gimmicky.
I updated all the plugins using sync and the site went down. So it had to be restored to an earlier (March 2017) version.
Yes, you will have some headaches when updating from such a long time ago. It might be worthwhile getting some experienced help in conducting the bulk update. It can be very challenging and the risk of crashing is high.
I can also see that there have been quite a few customisations to the theme. An alternative slider for one, plus many other aesthetic adaptions. The question then becomes ‘where have these been stored?. In the theme files or separately.
All things considered, it looks like the update will need to conducted with patience.
